Rip Van Fish are a species of fish that appear in Super Mario World and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. They are usually sleeping until Mario gets close to it, at which point it will wake up and begin to angrily chase him. Rip Van Fish can also wake up from a Chargin' Chuck's whistle.
Appearance
Rip Van Fishes are often portrayed as predominantly violet-colored and have orange fins. They also have red lips.

Brutal Mario
Rip Van Fish are usually found sleeping in underwater levels. When near one, Mario or Luigi wakes it up, and it pursues the Bro. until it can defeat them. Rip Van Fish can also wake up from a Chargin' Chuck's whistle. If they get too far from Mario, they will fall back asleep. Mario and Luigi cannot defeat these enemies unless they have a Fire Flower, use a Starman or have their Yoshi eat them.
